Houston, we have LIFToff!
After the resounding success of LipSync and Musicara over the past two years, we were left wondering just how we could follow up on such amazing events. Luckily, with no shortage of passion, creativity, or drive, our top mad-scientists went to work and thus, LIFT was born!
Several hundred attendees flocked to the gorgeous new Anvil Centre for an unforgettable night of music and empowerment.
Partnering with #IAmAntiBully, a grassroots movement that encourages proactive measures and stances against bullying, LIFT was the first concert ever held in Metro Vancouver to raise awareness about this important issue—how cool is that? (Answer: Very). LIFT 2016 successfully built off of the momentum generated by Pink Shirt day only a couple of weeks prior and served to remind us that bullying is more than a once-a-year topic and ending it is an ongoing community effort worthy of our attention.
Equally as deserving of attention were the fantastic local and international artists who were kind enough to showcase their skills. While it was rather rainy and dreary outside, our amazingly talented performers made sure that the vibe and energy inside could only be described as sunny, warm, and welcoming.
Representing HUM’s youth division, veteran HUM performers The Wishbone kicked off the night with their signature upbeat sound.
Next, we were treated to a stunning performance by Warren Dean Flandez and the Top Line Vocal Collective. Their music never ceases to amaze in showcasing the power of the human voice.
We then changed direction and got a taste of up-and-coming singer and songwriter, Gabriela Geneva who performed her unique mix of pop and R&B, including her debut single “Tornado”.
Hot off of Gabriela’s heels, Kyle Stibbs showed us how he earned his Top-5 spot on the European charts. We are excited to see what’s next for him!
To end the night, we heard from the powerful duo of Jerrica Santos and Russel Figueroa, along with their new group DefG. Jerrica and Russell have both achieved success at the international level and it was a privilege to experience their unbelievable singing (and in Jerrica’s case, also rapping) abilities first hand. Their band was equally electric and the combined result of the energy these performers brought literally had the crowd on their feet.
When the dust settled, LIFT raised a total of $7739. We couldn’t be happier with the result and have so many parties we want to thank.
We want to thank the Anvil Centre for providing a top-notch facility. We want to thank each and every performer and volunteer who helped make this concert a reality (trust me, there were A LOT and we are eternally grateful!). We want thank our generous sponsors for their contributions. And last but certainly not least, we want to thank you-yes you- for coming out, for promoting us on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, for talking about us to your friends and family, and for simply for believing in what we do and the power of music. We hope you’ll join us again because, with your help, we can keep Healing Using Music.
